3 Months Old

July 29th, 2008.

Dear Penny,

Today you are three months old. I can’t believe how quickly time is passing. You are growing so fast! You have grown from a tiny newborn into a happy, cherubic baby.

You seem to change overnight and each day you can do more new things. I am sad that summer is almost over because it means I will have to go back to work soon and I have a lot of anxiety about being away from you, even for just a few hours.

I miss you when you go to sleep at night and my heart sings when you smile at me in the morning. It has taken us a little while to get into the swing of things, but I am feeling more and more confident as your mother, and together we make a wonderful team, mommy and baby. We are both a lot better at breastfeeding now, which is such a relief to me. I knew we could do it, which is why I didn't give up. Sometimes you eat with one arm behind your head, as if you are having a leisurely meal. You are the cutest baby ever and you make me laugh every day.

You really like to go on walks at the park with your friend LC. You like to look up at the trees, or sleep in your stroller in the morning air before it gets too hot. You like to be held by your daddy while he eats his dinner at night. The two of you play a game where you take turns sticking your tongues out at each other. You have been "talking" a lot and you can reach for toys and hold them in your hands.

You can hold your head up really well and tummy time is getting a lot easier for you. I'm so proud of you! Your bellybutton might end up an "innie" after all. We will have to wait and see! Your eyes are also starting to change color, although we're still not sure what color they will ultimately be.

I know time will continue to pass quickly, so I'm savoring every exciting moment. I'm so glad you are in my life. You will always be my baby.

Love,
Mom.
