6 Months Old

November 4, 2008

Dear Penny,

I can’t believe you are already 6 months old. You are growing every day and each morning when you wake up, you look a little different. I have been noticing other babies who are younger and smaller than you and it’s funny to think that you were once that little.

You are getting stronger and you can sit on the floor by yourself for a little while before toppling over. We tried sitting in the shopping cart at the store, and you were able to do it! I strapped you in and proceeded to push the cart very carefully and slowly around the store. We also tried some rice cereal the other day and you were pretty excited to try something new. I’m not sure how much you actually ate, but we will keep practicing.

I went back to work part-time last month and it has been hard for me. I think about you all day long and I can’t concentrate. Everyone at work has been very supportive, but sometimes I wonder if I am doing the right thing. I really like my job and I like what I do. My career is important to me and it is a big part of who I am. But I like you a lot more than I like my job. So we’ll have to see where these feelings lead. Meanwhile, your daddy is working harder than ever so that I can be with you. He looks forward to the weekends and he creeps into your room to kiss you when he gets home from a long day.

You get to go to Grandma and Grandpa M’s house on the days I go to work, and they get a kick out of playing with you. I am glad that you get to spend time with them. We are still working on making sure you get enough sleep during the day AND at night, which has a big impact on your demeanor.

Today we had a monumental election in our country. Everyone in your family took part in the democratic process and voted. I am happy to tell you that for the first time in history, a black man is the president of our country. I am very excited and optimistic for the future, YOUR future.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this month will fly by and soon it will be Christmas. I know you will continue to delight and amaze us. You will always be my baby.

Love,
Mom.

Happy 1/2 birthday, Penny. I can't believe how big you are already. Someday if I'm real lucky, I'll get to meet you in person. I'm sure that will be a treat, because I know what good parents you have, and good parents have good children (mostly).
You are very lucky to have only spent 6 months of your life under the Bush dynasty--in a couple months, we can start digging our way back out. Under the leadership of President Obama, your future is going to be full of opportunities!

To KT, I recommend using your purse as a wedge in the shopping cart.
We also have Rock-a-bye The Cure, and Rock-a-bye Tool.

And the wonder doesn't go away as they get older. Although the exasperation may grow just a little bit. I love your posts.

Honestly, she could not possibly get any yummier. Congrats on making it to the halfway mark. It just gets better from here.
